Abstract: SCS-Locator is an AJAX based web application that visualizes and facilitates Location-Awareness within an organization. We are trying to combine contents from more than one source as well as raw data to make a visualized people locator. The architecture will be designed to be very scalable, however, for the purpose of this term project, we are offering this web service for Comp SCI students only. Raw data will be extracted from SCS servers such as jupiter and depending on the level of co-operation that administration would offer. Other data and contents will be extracted from available web sources. Unix shell scripts will be used to retrieve data from servers and this data will be refined in PHP scripts implemented as the back end of AJAX framework. Also, unix shell scripts feed data to an AJAX auto suggestion framework that facilitates the search process for users. SCS-Locator benefits from the power of unix based operating systems and shell scripts. It indicates that future web applications can benefit from such framework by utilizing numerous shell scripts that are available to administrators.
